We always install a rain sensor, which allows automatic shutdown during rainy weather, and turns the system back on once the sensor has dried out. The sensor is designed so that it mimics the soil moisture levels, and can be set to different rainfall levels. The controller can also override the sensor....but remember to turn it on again!
